Kartik Yatra 2009

Kartik Yatra 2009

We recently concluded the Kartik Yatra 2009 to Sridham Mayapur between 17th and 27th October. This yatra was attended by over 3000 devotees from across the world. The theme for the yatra was the 500th anniversary of Lord Chaitanya accepting sanyas. The highlights of the yatra include:

· Over 20 hours of narrations of the pastimes of Lord Chaitanya leading to Him accepting Sanyas by H.H. Jayapataka Swami and H.H. Radhanath Swami. (The notes of the lectures are available in the Matchless Gifts Shop)

· Visits by the devotees to several holy places in Navadvip Dham. Since the devotees were split in 4 groups, the katha and darshans were easily possible for all devotees:

o Navadvip dham by boat, Dharmeshwar Mahaprabhu (deity worshipped by Vishnupriya devi), samadhi mandir & bhajan kutir of Jagannath das Babaji Maharaj.

o Yogapith (birthplace of Lord Chaitanya), Srivas Angan (the home of Srivas where the Lord enacted pastimes of kirtan with his confidential associates), Chaitanya Math (the Samadhi of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur & Their Lordships Gandharvika Giridhari), homes of Murari Gupta & Nandan Acharya.

o Simatadvip, Chand Kazi’s tomb, Lord Jagannath’s ISKCON temple at Rajapur

o Godrumdvip by boat (Surabhi kunj and Bhaktivinod Thakur’s home, bhajan kutir of Gaur Kishor das Babaji Maharaj, Aam Ghat and Harihar temple)

o Champahatti & Vidyanagar (the Deities carved by Lord Chaitanya, the bhajan kutir of Jayadev Goswami, the place where Nimai Pandit studied under Gangadas Pandit, and a temple of Lord Narasimhadev where He washed His hands after killing Hiranyakashipu)

o Ambika Kalna (the home of Gauridas Pandit whose famous Deities Gaur Nitai would join the kirtan of Hriday Chaitanya, the place where Lord Nityananda got married),

o Katwa (the place where Lord Chaitanya has His hair cut and accepted sanyas from Keshav Bharti Maharaj), Jajigram (the place of worship of Narahari Sarkar and Srinivas Acharya) & Srikhanda (the Deity of Gopinath who personally ate the bhoga offered by Raghunandan)

o Mamgachi by boat (birthplace of Vrindavan das Thakur)

o Ekachakra (place of birth and childhood pastimes of Lord Nityananda, Bankim Rai temple – the Deities in which Lord Nityananda merged and physically departed from the planet, Pandav tala; Deity of Lord Shiva worshipped by the parents of Lord Nityananda)

· Over 1100 offerings cooked by the Yatra participants using chulas on Govardhan puja day; 1500 offerings made for Srila Prabhupada disappearance day.

· Four hours of Prabhupada katha by various disciples of Srila Prabhupada on his disappearance day

· Dramas enacted daily depicting pastimes of the Lord leading to sanyas

· Ecstatic Damodarashtak bhajan & kirtan and lamp offerings by thousands of devotees each evening

· Unbelievably sumptuous variegated Prasad consisting of chapattis, two kinds of rice, two sabjis, dal, yoghurt, fried items, salad, sweets & sauf served every day with minimal queues.

· The Gopashtami darshan of the Lotus feet of the Sakhis and Srimati Radharani at Sri Sri Radha Madhav temple was the most cherished highlight of the yatra, where Their Lordships remained awake for an extra two hours to give darshan to the devotees returning from Ekachakra.

The devotees from all over the world very much appreciated the manner in which the yatra was organized and would like to thank all the hundreds of devotees who toiled endlessly over several months to make this an ecstatic experience.

Sri Mayapur Dham ki Jai!!!
