The power of Prayers to Lord Nrisimhadeva by HG Pankajanghri prabhu

To All Vaishnava,

On 18th March,2008,Sri Maheshbhai Dhokia ,congregation member from
London called me and told me that His wife,Srimati Jayshree Dhokia is
suffering from acute uterine cancer and she is being flown to Frankfurt for
the last time.Maheshbhai asked me if the devotees in mayapur could do some
prayers for his wife. Doctors in London had given up the hope and claimed
that she may not last more then 3 months as the cancer had spread to most
parts of lower body that is Abdominal and pelvic area..
The following morning,I humbly requested HG Pankajanghri prabhu and
explained him the whole situation. We were both in the pujari room near Radha
Madhav Altar.I was dressing mahaprabhu at that time of the year and HG
Pankajanghri prabhu was making his final preparations for all the abhisekha
of Lord Nrisimadeva.HG Pankajaghri prabhu asked what is the name of the
mataji.I just gave the name of the mataji writing on the piece of paper.
Now in Germany, just during the same time the operation was going on
to save Srimati Jayshree mataji. After she gained her consciousness she told
her husband that she dream't of lord Nrisimhadev of Mayapur.Bhakta Pralad
maharaj was there to tell her the glories of lord Nrisimhadev. She also told
her husband that she completely feels like a new person and something evil
has left her body.
Now back in London,She was taken back to Doctors for a check up.During
the PET Scan,The Radiologist were shocked to discover that there was no sign
of cancer at all. They called up the hospital in Germany to confirm about the
the medical details of the patient. The German surgeons, who operated on her
could not believe what they were just hearing from the radiologist in
London. The German Surgeons were shocked to hear that there was no sign of
cancer at all.The German research medical unit is now deeply studying the
entire case. Now little do these Doctors know, that there is somebody by the
name of Lord Nrimimhadeva,Who protect his devotees.
While both HG Maheshbhai and his good wife Srimati Jayshree came back
to Mayapur to really have a close darshan of Lord Nrisimhadeva and come to
their senses and understand as to just what had happen .
Srimati Jayshreeben just cried and cried in front of lord Nrishmdeva.HG
Jananivas prabhu summed up the whole transcendental episode,While blessing
both the couples,HG Jananivas prabhu said " Lord Nrisimhadeva performs
operation with his transcendendal nails and the devotees just feel
Jayshreeben now chants 16 good rounds and with this new Krishna
Consiousness life,She thanks all the devotees of ISKCON and she feels very
proud to join the real spritual family of Srila Prabhupada. She vows to come
to Mayapur every year and be near Lord Nrisimhadeva.
She also thanks Both HG Jananivas prabhu and HG Pankajanghri prabhu for
having saved her life through powerful prayers to Lord Nrisimdeva .

From Fear To Hope

The 68th Prerana held on 27th December had the record high attendance of about 1200 participants. The lecture entitled, ‘From Fear To Hope’ was given by His Holiness Radhanath Swami Maharaj.

On July 11th 2006, 7 blasts in 7 minutes left 209 dead, 700 injured and millions terrorized in Mumbai. A few days later when I was sitting in the Vrindavan forest, a family approached me. The husband had witnessed one of the blasts and the subsequent traumatic scene. He was shaken. The wife with her two little children asked me, “In this world of hatred and cruelty how does bhakti help us cope with it?” I was reminded of a story which His Holiness Sachinandan Maharaj had once narrated.

Hitler killed 12 million people in his concentration camps and most of them were Jews. His Holiness Sachinandan Maharaj’s uncle was also working under Hitler. A friend of the uncle observed something special in the room where the prisoners were kept. On the walls were beautiful drawings of butterflies flying upwards. Inquisitive, he asked a captive Jew as to why they drew such paintings before being sent in to gas chambers.

The man said, “The butterfly has to be wrapped up in a cocoon under painful situations before its beautiful colored wings come out. Then it can freely fly in the sky. Similarly we have the hope that our souls will also be free in the Kingdom of God after we go through these painful experiences inflicted by you upon us. We have faith that at death if we remember the Lord with devotion, we will be free for ever from all sufferings. And without your knowledge you are helping us attain perfection.”

Later the friend told this whole incident to His Holiness Sachinandan Maharaj’s uncle. Hitler had brainwashed his followers that the Jews were sub-human and they were evil inherently. But this incident changed the uncle’s perspective completely. He repented for the rest of his life for the wrongs he had committed.

If we have hope, we have life. It can give us the spirit of joy no matter what the situation. But misplaced hope can be the cause of the greatest fear. If we place our hope in the body and things connected with the body, it will be simply causes of fear.  The process of bhakti is about losing hope were there is no hope and see unlimited hope were there is unlimited hope.

The great devotees of the Lord have unlimited hope in the infinite love of the Supreme Lord. Because Draupadi placed her hope in the protection of the Lord, she was protected. If we take full shelter of the Lord, the Lord gives Himself in full. Hanumanji had hope in every situation and he was looking for service in every situation and so he found it in every situation. Similarly Srila Prabhupada had hope in every situation because he had taken shelter of Krishna’s love. In the beginning days when only two or three people would come for his program, Srila Prabhupada would still be hopeful. Once he wrote to his godbrother expressing his hope, “….they seemed to like the chanting.”

One of the things that is common between Hanumanji and Srila Prabhupada is that both had unlimited hope because of their implicit faith in the order that was given to them and in the holy names.

The program ended with kirtan and prasadam.

Humility Attracts The Attention Of Master- HG RSP Speaks

Srila Prabhupada was an epitome of humility.  Srila Prabhupada was once giving a class on Varnasrama. One person in audience asked Srila Prabhupada which class of society he belonged to, and Srila Prabhupada said, “I’m fifth class, servant of all these 4 classes!”

Once (in an air port) a Devotee announced “All devotees have to go to other side because of airport problems!” Srila Prabhupada also went along with all the devotees. The announcing devotee came to Srila Prabhupada and said, “Prabhupada, it was not for you.” Srila Prabhupad asked, “Am I not a devotee?”

People who don’t think that they are smart or great and who don’t think that they are great and don’t want to come in lime light, they catch the attention of the master. For Example:- Sugriva and all other monkeys were sitting to be selected as that one monkey who can go to search Sita at Lanka. Actually every monkey was speaking of his qualities and qualifications, but Hanuman was silent. It was Jambavan who reminded Hanuman of his qualities and abilities which he had forgotten due to a curse. When Hanuman was reminded, he immediately grew in size. He was picked and chosen without his boasting.

If you give love, you will get love and If you give respect, you will get respect- HG RSP Speaks

There is a story of man who went to north to a place which is called valley of Gods. It’s a serene place. Whatever you speak will be echoed there. Very beautiful greenery, snow capped mountains! This person was told-If you go to that place, you will be welcomed very warmly.

This man went to top of mountain and saw valley of Gods. It’s completely serene and silent.

He shouted loudly “why don’t you say something?”

Sound echoed back “why don’t you say something?  Say something?.. Something…”.

He is wondering “I am asking to say something; this fellow is asking me again???”

He shouted again “How rude of you to hurt me?”

Sound echoed back “How rude of you?... rude of you...”

He again shouted “I hate you”

Sound echoed “ I hate you,  hate you…hate you”

He said “ I came to experience love here , but I experienced only hate”

When he came down mountain there was a village where a Sadhu is speaking to people how they are fortunate to be in a village where there is valley of Gods. When it came to Question & Answer session, this person asked “Swamiji!, why are you cheating people? That place(Valley of Gods) is full of hate and  rudeness”.

The Sadhu took that person to the top of mountain.

Swamiji shouted loudly “O lord, greetings to you!”

Sound echoed back “Greetings to you,,,, greetings …greetings”

Swamiji again shouted “I love you”

Sound echoed back“ I love you… love you…love you”

This man is surprised.

Then Swamiji told him that life is mirror. “Whatever you gave, you got that only back”. He gave words like rude n hate and he got them back…

The standard slogan is – “ If you give love, you will get love and If you give respect, you will get respect”. Very simple slogan.  Life is like a mirror. Whatever you give, you will get that back !!!

Triple S Formula for giving up Bad Habits- HG RSP Speaks

(To give up bad habits) The first thing we should do is– Starve the bad habits. This is called triple S formula – Starve the bad habits, Supplement good habits, Stay away from bad association – then you’ll Sustain and Abstain.

If you are in association, you are regularly and forcibly given Mangal Arati injection, Nrsimha Arati injection, Chanting injection and then Srimad Bhagavatam injection. Think about the conditionings you have – if you go to the environments where you had fed wrong things, your memories will arise and your conditionings may pull you back. For Example:- one boy and girl were having affair in college days but by will of providence, they were separated and they got married to other partners. But later,  when they met each other, the old vasana comes up. So old friendships and old habits are very dangerous. One has to have determination which comes by association(with Devotees) regularly. One should come in association and hear about the pure message of Srimad Bhagavatam.

How to "Just Chant and Hear?"- HG RSP Speaks

Srila Prabhupad says “What is the difficulty in chanting? You have to just chant and hear”. Now if it’s such an easy thing, why should people be struggling?  Of course for a pure Devotee chanting and hearing is very easy. That’s why it’s said Japa is barometer of spiritual life. What it means? Depending on how much purity we have achieved in our heart, to that degree one will be able to very happily, blissfully and with great eagerness approach Holy name. And to the degree one is not purified, chanting becomes very difficult task, it becomes a great challenge. Based on our eagerness to chant the Holy names, eagerness to take shelter of Holy name, we can understand where I am standing in spiritual life. That’s why when we say “just chant and hear” that’s not so easy, it’s difficult. We have practical experience of this. Then what is the remedy?

When we understand the way Holy name acts on our system, we may be inspired to approach the Holy name with more sincerity. Rupa Goswami says kintu adarat anudinam… He is saying just as a jaundice person tongue is bitter and doesn’t have taste for sugarcane juice although its sweet, he has to keep  drinking that as medicine . Here lies the key, He says we have to approach (Holy name) with adarat means with great respect and anudinam means every day. Then it will uproot all misgivings and time will come when we can develop great attraction for Holy name.

Worth reading !!!

While a man was washing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked stone & scratched lines on the side of the car.

In anger, the man took the child's hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father.... with painful eyes he asked "Dad when will my fingers grow back?"

Man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to car and kicked it a lot of times.

Devastated by his own actions..... sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches, child had written….

The next day that man committed suicide…

Anger and Love have no limits… choose the later to have a beautiful & lovely life....

"Things are to be used and people are to be loved..." But, the problem in today's world is...

People are used and things are loved......

Taking Strength from Association of Devotees - HG RSP Speaks

Sometimes the mongoose and snake have a fight. Out of the two, snake is more powerful because it has the poison. Snake can hit the mongoose with poisonous teeth and the mongoose will be finished. Sometimes when they fight, nobody can say who will win. Actually the mongoose cannot digest the snake’s poison. As soon as it gets bitten by snake’s fangs, it goes to a vanaspati plant and smells it and eats some leaves and thus neutralizes the poison. And then again it goes back to the snake and attacks from behind, at the tail, and drags him to the vanaspati plant. By the time he runs to the vanaspati plant, the snake again bites him and again he goes to vanaspati plant. In this way little by little the mangoose takes the snake very close to the vanaspati plant and then once they are there, the mongoose bites the snake into pieces. Finally the mongoose was completely in vanaspati plant and then he tears down the snake to pieces. This is the mechanism adopted by mongoose in killing a snake.

The analogy here is – all of us while being in material world are attacked by snake bites of materialists. What we should do? We should come back running to the devotees’ association and by that nullify the poison. Then again we have to go back to the materialists because of our job and roles in the material world. One has to again and again take the strength of association. The meaning of taking the snake closer to the vanaspati plant is to gradually reduce the material life and increasing the direct Krishna-element.

Giving up Desire for Name & Fame- HG RSP Speaks

The desire to be popular amongst devotees is a very nasty desire. We must be eager to do services and we should always come forward. We should hanker for the service but not for the popularity attached with that.

Another kind of false prestige is that we fear to accept post and position. For example- If we are requested to lead Mangala Arati, we should do that. If Guru tells us to leave the tree and live in the palace, then living under the tree will be disservice.

Srila Prabhupada felt that he is also one of ISKCON members. Once someone asked, “Srila Prabhupada, Are you ISKCON or are you different from ISKCON?” Srila Prabhupada said, “What are you asking? I am one of the ISKCON members.” He never thought I am the source of ISKCON”.

We should give up the desire to be a hero or competitor of Krishna. For example, in Symphonic Music band – if drummer thinks “I am not being told to play and no one is looking at me” and suddenly if he starts beating the drums without the Director saying anything, then whole show is spoiled. Similarly as soon as a devotee wants name and fame, the problem begins. A devotee should know that I am also one of the devotees who are cooperating to serve Krishna. “I am one of them and I am insignificant”. We should be praising others services. Even in the spiritual world, they are always singing glories of others.

Controlling The Mind With Strong Intelligence- HG RSP Speaks

Mind is like a naughty child who will always remember past bad habits but if the mind is somehow rendered humble and submissive in the company of Vaishnavas and one has made some amount of spiritual progress then we find that the mind becomes calm and the old pursuit of sense gratification is gone. Occasionally the mind may hanker for old sense gratification but generally the mind then pursues Krishna Consciousness things only.

If mind is not controlled, it will trouble aggressively. Also habits die hard. For Example:- if you wash cloth with super Rin, the whole dirt goes but the ink spot doesn’t go. Whatever you do, it doesn’t go away easily. Similarly sometimes you feel that the habit has gone but again it comes back. The soul can be peaceful if intelligence is stout and strong then the mind and senses can also be controlled. The senses are the outlets for lust. Above the senses is the mind.

Bhagavad Gita 3.42 says

indriyani parany ahur indriyebhyah parah manah

manasas tu para buddhir yo buddhir paratas tu sah

The working senses are superior to dull matter; mind is higher than the senses; intelligence is still higher than the mind; and he [the soul] is even higher than the intelligence.

All the senses are the faithful loyal servants of the mind. Intelligence is even beyond the mind and atma is even beyond buddhi.

Srila Prabhupada writes in the purport, “If by intelligence one engages one's mind in Krishna consciousness, by complete surrender unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then, automatically the mind becomes stronger, and even though the senses are very strong, like serpents, they will be no more effective than serpents with broken fangs”.

Devotees Indulging in Sin Receive Greater Punishment- HG RSP Speaks

Out of the two, visaya(sense object) is better than visayi(enjoyer of sense objects). If we indulge in kama-
vasana terrible punishments await one. If one is in Krishna Consciousness, and then if one indulges in kama-vasana then he will get severe punishment, because he is doing it knowingly. All of us have been nourished by so much knowledge, mercy and blessings. After getting all these doses of mercy, if one indulges in wrong things then terrible, specially designed yamadutas and hell await him, because it comes under the 7th offense – jaan bhoojkar paap karna.

Just like in companies, they have the smoke detectors – as soon as there is little smoke, there will be big alarm. Our intelligence should have a signal like that. As soon as you come across a dangerous visaya(sense object), immediately the danger signal should come. It is not that we can philosophize that as devotees we’ll not get animal bodies. King Indradyumna got elephant’s body, Bharata Maharaja got deer’s body. By right use of freewill, our freedom increases.

Yatha Drishti, Tatha Srishti- HG RSP Speaks

Vedic affirm says “ yatha dristi, tatha sristi”. Dristi means our sight, sristi means creation. Whatever our vision is, accordingly whole world appears. It’s like glass with a tint, if I have glass with brown tint, everything looks brown. Similarly whatever my state of consciousness is , based on that I see the world. For example- One of you got distinction, but you expected only 1st class. Naturally you are in happy state. You feel “God is merciful and so kind”. You feel so festive and everything looks colourful. You don’t walk, just dance. Everything looks nice, you offer obescences to all! This world turns to spiritual world. When you are in this state of mind, even if someone scolds, we speak very nicely, because we are happy.

On the other hand, if you get very poor results, barely you survived. You are looking at everyone with big face. Even somebody comes and says you “Prabhu, I have kept sweet rice for you”. You say “what sweet rice! Nothing is sweet in this world”. So we all go by mind in this world. State of mind reflects in everything. That’s why we shouldn’t become mentally situated. We should detach ourselves from mind. Mind will sometimes like something and sometimes doesn’t like something. But as soul we have to act on platform of intelligence which has to be strengthened by knowledge. Say we got poor results, we have to know whether we tried our best or not. If we have not studied properly, why to blame others for that. One should avoid identifying with mind and one should nourish intelligence by spiritual knowledge and not get swayed with mind.

Appearance of Radha Kunda - Bahulastami

Appearance of Radha Kunda, Snana Dana

Sri Radha-Kundastakam
by Srimad Raghunatha dasa Gosvami
"After the killig of Aristasura, Srimati Radhika and Her sakhis exchanged
many joking words with Sri Krsna concerning the necessary atonement for
one who has committed the offence of killing a bull. As a result, the
Queen of Vrndavana, Srimati Radhika, and Her sakhis joyfully excavated and
filled Sri Radha-kunda with their own hands. May that immensely fragrant
Radha-kunda be my shelter.

"In the land of the hearts of those who bathe in Radha-kunda, a desire
tree of the superlative prema, which is not attainable even for Krsna's
principal queens in Dvaraka, will arise. May that supremely charming Radha-
kunda be my shelter.

"For the pleasure of Srimati Radhika, even Sri Krsna Himself, yearning to
attain Her merciful sidelong glance, regularly bathes in Radha-kunda,
carefully observing all the appropriate rituals. May that supremely
enchanting Radha-kunda be my shelter.

"May that supremely enchanting Radha-kunda, which the moon of Vraja, Sri
Krsna, loves as much as He loves the crown-jewel amongst the sweet girls
of Vraja, Srimati Radhika, and which He has made known by the name of
Radhika Herself, be my shelter.

"The mercy obtained by serving Radha-kunda makes the desire-creeper of
prema for the prince of Vraja sprout and is celebrated for bearing the
flower of service to my svamini Srimati Radhika. May that supremely
charming Radha-kunda be my shelter.

"Gloriously manifest on the banks of Radha-kunda are eight kunjas named
after Radhika's principal sakhis. Acting as stimuli for the amorous
pastimes of the Divine Couple, these kunjas are filled with the sweet
humming of bumblebees and are desired by everyone. May that supremely
enchanting Radha-kunda be the shelter of my life.

"Situated on an exquisite dais on the bank of Radha-kunda and accompanied
by Her beloved sakhis, our svamini Srimati Radhika charmingly engages in
sweet, joking words with Sri Krsna, the moon of Vraja. These playful
verbal exchanges are enhanced by the suggestion of so many innuendoes. May
that Radha-kunda be the shelter of my life.

"May that very charming and especially fragrant Radha-kunda, where
intoxicated with love the Divine Couple and the sakhis daily sport with
great joy in the water so fragrant with exquisite lotus flowers, be the
sole shelter of my life.

"To that devotee who, in a resolute mood of aspiring to serve Srimati
Radhika, reads this charming prayer describing Sri Radha-kunda, even in
their present body Sri Krsna will quickly grant them darsana of not only
His beloved Radhika, but also of Their many variegated amorous pastimes.
Witnessing these pastimes and envisioning himself serving Yugala-kisora in
various ways, such a devotee will feel immense jubilation. This astaka is
recited in the poetic meter known as 'Malini'."

On the eighth day of the waning phase of the damodara month the appearance
day of Radha Kunda is celebrated by the residents. Bathing in Radha Kunda
is especially benefical on this day. By this one gains the favor of Radha,
by which one gains the favor of Krsna. Radha Kunda appeared at midnight.
People go to Radha Kunda and offer prasadam, garlands and pumkins (gords)
into the water, then at midnight take bath in Radha Kunda and then bathe
in Syama Kunda. Many people like to bathe at a ghat where Lord
Nityananda's sakti, Jahnava Mata used to bathe. But wherever you go you
better get there early as thousands of people/devotees will be there. And
bring some warm clothing for afterwards, as it is sooooo "cooling".

The holy place known as Mathura is spiritually superior to Vaikuntha, the
transcendental world, because the Lord appeared there. Superior to Mathura
puri is the transcendental forest of Vrndavana because of Krsna's rasalila
pastimes. And superior to the forest of Vrndavana is Goverdhana Hill, for
it was raised by the divine hand of Sri Krsna and was the site of his
various loving pastimes. And, above all, the superexcellent Sri Radha
Kunda stands supreme, for it is overflooded with the ambrosial nectarean
prema of the Lord of gokula, Sri Krsna. Where, then, is that intelligent
person who is unwilling to serve this divine Radha Kunda, which is
situated at the foot of Goverdhana Hill?

Srila Rupa Goswami's Nectar of Instruction (Upadeshamritam)

The Origin of Radha-kund

After killing a bull-demon named Aristasura, Krishna approached Radharani
to engage in loving affairs. However, She rebuked Him, stating He was
impure because of committing the sin of killing a bull, the symbol of
religion. She suggested that to counteract this sin He should bathe in all
the sacred rivers.

Krishna, being eager to engage in loving affairs with Srimati Radharani,
immediately shoved His lotus foot into the ground, making a large hole,
and called all the sacred rivers to enter into it. They appeared before
Him and formed Syama-kunda (the bathing place of Syama--one who is the
color of a dark rain cloud).

After bathing, Krishna stated that He had become pure by bathing in Syama-
kunda, but that the gopis had become impure, having sided with a demon,
even though he appeared in the form of a bull. Radharani, along with some
of Her gopi friends, broke their bangles and dug a hole with the broken
pieces. But there was no water - so Krishna laughed. The gopis then formed
a line to the Manasi Ganga and started to fill the hole with water that
was passed from one gopi to another. At that time, all the sacred rivers
again arrived in person and requested permission to enter into Radharani's
kunda, which they did after receiving Radharani's blessing.

A story told by the main Jagannath pujary at Raja Pura in Mayapur

A story told by the main Jagannath pujary at Raja Pura in Mayapur

Haribol prabhujis, please accept my humble obeisances and all glories to Srila Prabhupada. My name is Bhadrasena Das and I am the main pujary for Jagannath in Raja Pura, Mayapur for the last 12 years. I wanted to share with your a real story in relation with Lord Jagannath.

Since the last 12 years there was a water leak in the Deity room, it was because the domes were cracked and it let the water go through. The problem was intolerable especially during the rainy season; a lot of water used to get into the temple area and sometimes drops of water used to fall on the Deities too.  One day I prayed to Jagannath: “Please Lord, let me fix this problem, I cannot tolerate any more how your temple is in such condition. You know very well that I have no money, so how am I going to fix this problem if you do not give me money. Lord of my heart, I am not going to go outside to collect because I am your pujary, so please send someone who can give me some money and I promise You that in one month I will fix this problem”.

The very next day one man came to take darshan and I served him prasadam. After prasadam he approached me and said that he wanted to do some service for Jagannath. Please give me any service and I will do it he said.

I asked him: Are you sure you will do any service I tell you to do? And the man replayed affirmatively. I explained him the leaking problem and he immediately offered me some money to fix the problem. He gave me 45.000 rupees just like that.

Here in this area it is difficult to get good workers, but for this work very good expert workers came. While fixing the domes, the workers discovered that it was a bigger problem than thought, so I needed more money. Somehow, devotees came forward and donated for the work and in exactly one month the work was done. This rainy season, 2008, for the first time in 12 years no water leaks could be noticed , so I feel very happy for having done some service for Jagannath. Lord Jagannath is so powerful and merciful, you can pray and He will bless you even when you are far away from Mayapur.

First Measure To Conquer Envy - HG Gaur Lila Pr Speaks

We may say I am practicing spiritual life nicely, I am strong in Sadana, and so I am not envious. But there is a simple formula to judge with whom we are envious and to what to degree.

  1. Whom I wouldn’t like to accompany when I am asked to go with?
  2. How I feel on someone’s failure and success?
  3. How I feel when someone is appreciated or chastised?

We have to see what kind of feelings come in our heart. Because we are in material world we have envy within our heart. We have to remove this envy by process of Krishna Consciousness in association of Devotees. As it is said, whatever becomes obstacle in our Sense Gratification, that object of obstacle becomes object of envy for us.

Sense Gratification is root cause of envy.

In one of the verses of Srimad Bhagavatam it is said,

anviksikya shoka mohau

dambham mahad upasaya

yogantarayan maunena

himsam kamady anihaya

By discussing spiritual knowledge one can conquer lamentation and illusion, by serving a great devotee one can become pride less, by keeping silent one can avoid obstacles on the path of mystic yoga, and simply by stopping sense gratification one can conquer envy.

Whenever we see envy in our heart, try to find out what sense gratification objects, we are interested in and try to curb those objects. This is first measure we should take.

Whatever You Give to Others, You Will Get The Same Back- HG RSP Speaks

Nobody could make Buddha angry very easily. Once when He was passing by, one man wanted to incite anger in Buddha’s heart. He went to Buddha and shouted at Him scorching, painful words of insult. Buddha still appeared to be smiling. It’s said there is aura around Buddha. Even if tiger and deer come into that circle, they would forget the enmity. He is so powerful. When the person is giving all these harsh words, He (Buddha) didn’t take it seriously. After sometime, this man felt great pain in this heart. He was surprised “I am giving such words to Buddha, instead of He feeling pain, why I am feeling pain?”.

Buddha asked him “Do you ever get guests in home?. He said “yes”. “So when they come, do you offer some gifts to them?”. He said “yes”. “What will you do if they don’t accept?”. That Person said “who cares? I will keep with me only.” Buddha said “That’s what I did with you also; you offered me something(harsh words) which I didn’t accept”.

So Life is like a mirror. The words which you give will come back to you. We should be careful about what we give to others. Now somebody may say “I gave so much love to some person, still that person is rude with me”. No! If you give love to someone, don’t expect love from same person, it may come from somebody else. For example- Dhruva Maharaj is gentle to his step mother. But He is mistreated by her. He didn’t get love from his step mother, but he got love from Krishna later. His mother told him “Supreme Lord can give you so much love that millions of mothers like me cannot give”. Similarly in our life also, if we become vehicles of love n give love, we will get that love back.

Sri Radharamanji triumphantly rides on a very large silver elephant

Rama Vijayotsava or the day that Lord Rama killed Ravana,
popularly know as Dasshera. Every year on this evening in Radharama Mandir,
Sri Radharamanji triumphantly rides on a very large silver elephant. I am
sending a few pictures for you all to relish this wonderful once-a-year
of the Deity served by Gopal Bhatta Goswami.

For those who have never been to Vrindavan or are unfamiliar with Sri
Radharamanji, He was originally one of twelve Salagram Shilas that Gopal
Goswami accidently picked up when he scooped up water with his lota to take
bath in the Gandhaki River in Nepal and Muktinatha, the place where all such
shilas originate. He returned with Them to Vrindavan and was worshipping
and lamenting that the other Goswamis had beautiful Deities to worship with
clothes, crowns, and jewelry. Then one of the shilas known as Damodara self
manifest as the exquisitely enchanting Deity of Radharamanji.

Importance of Celebrating Kartikka in Vraja - Hari Bhakti Vilasa

Sri Damodarashtakam

Quotes from Skanda Purana

"A person who offers a lamp to Lord Krsna during Kartika attains the eternal spiritual world where there is no suffering."

"Even if there are no mantras, no pious deeds, and no purity, everything becomes perfect when a person offers a lamp during the month of Kartika.

"A person who offers a lamp during the month of Kartika attains a result that cannot be obtained with even a hundred yajnas or a hundred pilgrimages.

Sri Damodarashtakam

(found in the Padma Purana of Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasa, spoken by satyavrata Muni in a conversation with Narada Muni and Shaunaka Rishi)

"In the month of Kartika one should worship Lord Damodara and daily recite the prayer known as Damodaraishtaka, which has been spoken by the sage satyavrata and which attracts Lord Damodara. "

(1) namamishvaram sac-cid-ananda-rupam

Yashoda-bhiyolukhalad dhavamanam
paramrishtam atyantato drutya gopya

To the supreme Lord, whose form is the embodiment of eternal existence, knowledge, and bliss, whose shark-shaped earrings are swinging to and fro, who is beautifully shining in the divine realm of Gokula, who [due to the offense of breaking the pot of yogurt that His mother was churning into butter and then stealing the butter that was kept hanging from a swing] is quickly running from the wooden grinding mortar in fear of mother Yashoda, but who has been caught from behind by her who ran after Him with greater speed—to that supreme Lord, Shri Damodara, I offer my humble obeisances.

(2) rudantam muhur netra-yugmam mrjantam

[seeing the whipping stick in His mother’s hand,] He is crying and rubbing His eyes again and again with His two lotus hands. His eyes are filled with fear, and the necklace of pearls around His neck, which is marked with three lines like a conchshell, is shaking because of His quick breathing due to crying. To this supreme Lord, Shri Damodara, whose belly is bound not with ropes but with His mother’s pure love, I offer my humble obeisances.

(3) itidrk sva-lilabhir ananda-kunde

By such childhood pastimes as this He is drowning the inhabitants of Gokula in pools of ecstasy, and is revealing to those devotees who are absorbed in knowledge of His supreme majesty and opulence that He is only conquered by devotees whose pure love is imbued with intimacy and is free from all conceptions of awe and reverence. With great love I again offer my obeisances to Lord Damodara hundreds and hundreds of times.

(4) varam deva mokisham na mokishavadhim va

O Lord, although You are able to give all kinds of benedictions, I do not pray to You for the boon of impersonal liberation, nor the highest liberation of eternal life in Vaikuntha, nor any other boon [which may be obtained by executing the nine processes of bhakti]. O Lord, I simply wish that this form of Yours as Bala Gopala in Vrindavana may ever be manifest in my heart, for what is the use to me of any other boon besides this?

(5) idam te mukhambhojam atyanta-nilair

0 Lord, Your lotus face, which is encircled by locks of soft black hair tinged with red, is kissed again and again by mother Yashoda, and Your lips are reddish like the bimba fruit. May this beautiful vision of Your lotus face be ever manifest in my heart. Thousands and thousands of other benedictions are of no use to me.

(6) namo deva damodarananta viishno

O Supreme Godhead, I offer my obeisances unto You. O Damodara! O Ananta! O Vishnu! O master! O my Lord, be pleased upon me. By showering Your glance of mercy upon me, deliver this poor ignorant fool who is immersed in an ocean of worldly sorrows, and become visible to my eyes.

(7) kuveratmajau baddha-murtyaiva yadvat

O Lord Damodara, just as the two sons of Kuvera—Manigriva and Nalakuvara—were delivered from the curse of Narada and made into great devotees by You in Your form as a baby tied with rope to a wooden grinding mortar, in the same way, please give to me Your own prema-bhakti. I only long for this and have no desire for any kind of liberation.

O Lord Damodara, I first of all offer my obeisances to the brilliantly effulgent rope which binds Your belly. I then offer my obeisances to Your belly, which is the abode of the entire universe. I humbly bow down to Your most beloved Shrimati Radharani, and I offer all obeisances to You, the supreme Lord, who displays unlimited pastimes.

A friend in need is a friend in deed

Chetana, the festival of awakening was celebrated on Saturday, 4th October at Sri Sri Radha Gopinath Mandir. Around 200 enthusiastic girls participated in the festival.

The programme commenced with the topic for the evening given by H.G.Kalindi Mataji. She lucidly presented the lecture by first explaining how friendship is a wonderful relationship which happens without any barriers and class distinctions.

She said friends usually share the same values and have similar interests. But during testing times, they either turn their back against you or they are insensitive to your needs. And this is a very painful situation to be in, which questions the trust and foundation of our friendship. Therefore we see in few countries, they usually trust animals more as their closed ones. For example, in USA people generally trust their dogs more than even their family members.

At present, with the ubiquitous presence of technology and internet, there are various means to network, make new friends and meet interesting people. But all these dealings are on a very superficial level.

She beautifully explained citing examples from the Shastra, real friendship is based on tolerance and forgiveness. Whenever your friend hurts you should learn to forgive and forget, but when your friend helps you, you should be extremely grateful. Your true friend will always be concerned for helping your soul and support you in achieving your goal of life which is science of self realization.

To explain real friendship, a short skit was presented on the pastime of Krishna and Sudama, which graphically and emphatically depicted how Krishna is our real friend and doesn't make any distinctions. Sudama was a very poor brahmana, whereas Krishna was a King. Without his asking anything of Krishna, the Lord fulfilled all his desires because he was devoted to Him.

She said that Lord Krishna is our only dear friend and eternal well-wisher. She explained how when the Pandavas were in midst of difficulties and problems, Krishna never left them.

Quoting a shloka from the Bhagavad Gita, she said that even saintly persons are well-wishers of all living entities, as they see them equally without any distinctions. She concluded by saying, in the end we have to decide what we want to become and what we want out of the relationship. Relationships are the best when they are centered around the service of the Lord.

The Chetana festival ended with an enthralling kirtan, which was followed by scrumptious prasadam.

His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada It is my firm conviction that this Krishna consciousness movement of Lord Chaitanya’s will be successful in all parts of the world if our students kindly continue their enthusiastic endeavors
to distribute this message freely to all persons. Our movement is now appreciated all over the world and is gradually coming to the attention of the important leaders of the present society. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to keep our spiritual strength by rigidly following
the regulative principles. Then we can deal adequately with all facilities offered by the Lord for expediting his holy mission. I am confident that all our sincere, intelligent young devotees like your good self will carry this program to a fruitful conclusion, namely delivering the holy name to all the fallen souls suffering in varieties of conditional misery and material happiness. Therefore, please execute your program for distribution of literatures and saìkértana with increased vigor, and may Krishna bless your sincere efforts to serve him faithfully. It is very good news that you are introducing courses in Krishna consciousness in the universities
and yoga institutes. As you know, this is the only real yoga, bhakti-yoga, and is the only practical means for God realization in this age.
Therefore, you are doing the greatest good for your countrymen and the world at large by introducing this sublime movement for regaining
our lost position as eternal servants of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna. Please continue to distribute our books; that is a very important business. Your idea for film distribution is also good, so do it nicely in cooperation with the GBC. I am very anxious that at the same time as you carry out all these outside activities you are maintaining a strict schedule of temple activities.
Such regular activities, like attendance at ärati, chanting of rounds, and study of literatures in the class, will keep you fit for effective outside preaching work. We must maintain our standard of purity, otherwise there will be a loss of spiritual strength and subsequent fall down. You should all be thoroughly convinced of the power of the Hare Krishna mantra to protect you in all circumstances, and chant accordingly at all times without offense. Then advancement will be swift and you will gradually come to see everything clearly so that you may act for the pleasure of the Lord without uncertainty. When one is spontaneously engaged in this way, always in the service of the Lord and anxious to avoid all mundane activities, he is actually experiencing the taste of bliss in Krishna consciousness. ·— Letter to Damodara Das, 10 January 1971.

The only safe place to be in …..………......

The more power you have to do the right thing, the more you are held responsible when you do not do it; as they say the bigger you are, the harder you fall; the higher you go up, the more it hurts when you hit the ground…. So whenever we get something, there is also a responsibility that comes with us, materially that is the karmic law and spiritually that is the law of God. Therefore a devotee does not want a high position. We were explaining yesterday Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thaukra said do not try for a higher position, just always try to take a low position…….when you are always trying to take a low position then that attracts Krsna and it attracts vaishnavas and then they put you in a high position, when you are always trying for low position and you get into the higher position you will never fall down, but if you are trying for a high position then you will be a victim of false pride, because why does any one try for a high position - name, fame and all the bags that come with it. Mahaprabhu said offer all respects to others, expect none in return, be the servant of the servant of the servant, that is the only safe place to be in, it is to be in this consciousness of das, das, das, anu das.

Remember Lord Rama …..………......

Dassera is the celebration of the grand victory of Lord Ramachandra over the mighty demon Ravana and of course this is a factual historical event that took place in Sri Lanka, during the Treta Yuga. But know that it is also a lila that can take place within your heart when you take shelter of Lord Ramachandra. And therefore on this day, in preparation for this day, we should truly meditate on what this lila truly means to us. What it means to our life. The symbol of kama, ravana who is dwelling in the heart of all living souls, and is the single deadly enemy of every living being can all be defeated by the mighty glory of Rama. By remembering Rama, He appears within our heart. By remembering Him, He kills all the demons within our heart.

Durga Puja- A deep insight!

While Durga puja is celebrated in pomp and splendor all over Bengal
and other parts of the world, read through HG Jananivasa Prabhu's
wonderful class on the real meaning of Durga puja. Class was on the
Bhagavad Gita verse 17.14, where Lord explains about the austerity of
the body. In the purport, Prabhupada writes one should not do anything
which is not sanctioned by the scriptural injunctions. Following is
the transcription of the class on Durga puja.

As long as we are in this material world, it is understood that we are
in prison and the head of this prison is Durga devi. As prisoners are
given a particular type of uniform, similarly this body, the material
body, be it an animal body, plant body or human body, but we have a
material body means we have a uniform. This body is like uniform of
the prisoners. As long as we have this body, we are under the realm of
Durga devi , that means, we are all prisoners. As most of the prison
uniforms have stripe marks, similarly, if we mark stripes i.e. tilak
marks in this body, which is our uniform, and then we will be
prisoners of Krishna and no more of Durga.

We should understand that Durga devi is working under the direction of
Krsna. As, we see in Brahma Samhita,

sristi stithi pralaya sadhana saktireka
chayeva yasya bhuvanani bibharti durga
icchanurupam api yasya ca cestate sa
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

The external potency Maya who is of the nature of the shadow of the
cit potency, is worshiped by all people as Durga, the creating,
preserving and destroying agency of this mundane world. I adore the
primeval Lord Govinda in accordance with whose will Durga conducts

So, she is not independent or the controller but simply she acts under
the direction of the Supreme Lord just as shadow follows the
She has two sons-Ganesh and Kartikeya- represents mundane success and
beauty and that's why people who wish to be materially successful
worship Ganesha. She is seen as standing along with lakshmi and
saraswati who represents mundane knowledge and opulence. She carries
20 weapons in her arms, which represents various pious activities
enjoined in Vedas. She holds a snake in her hand. This represents the
beauty of destructive time. She tramples over the demon Mahisasura.
This represents how she tramples over the vices in this world.
When Jiva forgets eternal relationship with Krsna, he is put into
Durga's realm and the veil of Karma acts as the instrument for
punishing rebellious jivas. Durga's business is to punish all these
rebellious jivas. This is not actually punishment. It is meant for
reformation. When somebody is sent into prison, it is not really meant
for punishment but for reformation. So, Durgadevi is also having a
trident-the Trishul. Trishul represents the threefold material

, adibautika and adidaivika.miseries. Every moment
in life and everyone without any exception suffers due to one, two or
all the three of these miseries. So these miseries are not but trishul
of Durga. She is constantly pricking up the jivas with her trishul.
But the idea is to wake up the jiva and not punishing.
'Why am I suffering so much in this material world? Why am I forced to
be in womb, packed up for nine months, in the upside down position in
darkness with worms biting me every moment?'
There was a report in Australia two years ago, when a baby was born
and he actually spoke-"No, not again!not again!". The doctors were
surprised and rushing towards the baby to know what is happening!
Anyway, Krsna reminds us the misery of this world- old age is coming,
disease ,death and it's always suffering! So, the living entity comes
to the point, 'Why am I suffering'! How can I find solution to this
problem? Then he turns to Vedas, brahmanas and Guru to whom he can
Sanatana Goswami, our sambandha guru, when he approached Sri Caitanya
Mahaprabhu, he inquired, 'why am I suffering'? When someone asks this
question, human life starts at this point. Then, Vedas and spiritual
master can give us knowledge. You are not this body. You are the Soul.
Soul is eternal, full of bliss and knowledge.
Jiva asks, 'Why am I suffering in this material world? This is not my
place and where is that situation where I can live my eternity, bliss
and knowledge?'
Then spiritual master says, it is not this material world, dear son,
it is the spiritual world-back home back to Godhead where you
originally belong to. There is no disease, old age and death.
Guru Maharaj, how can I get that?
Guru says, 'Yes, you have to perform devotional service.'
How can I perform devotional service?
'Just Chant Hare Krishna and be happy '(Jai!)

Guru says chant Hare Krsna, be happy and go back to Godhead. So, this
is the situation.
So, Durga devi, when that person becomes devotee of Krsna, she becomes
so happy. Let me help him go back to Godhead.
Then that personality who is keeping you here becomes instrument to
help you transcend this material world. How? We have all the 33 crores
of demigods and they are all present everywhere in the body
controlling and she is their mother. When she is happy, seeing the
jivas advancement in Krishna Consciousnees, she orders all the devatas
to clear from the route. This is what she wants. She doesn't want to
keep anyone imprisoned in this world forever.
Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur once commented, 'Durga Puja is
not dancing for hindi songs, taking intoxication and having fun', as
we see nowadays in puja pandals.
Real Durga puja is to become a Krishna Bhakta. Then Durga will be
really happy. But if we worship her in anyway we like, whimsically,
Srila Prabhupada says they are fools. This body is her property. So,
ultimately she is going to take over your body. So, they are
worshipping her means they are worshipping their own death. So, they
are fools.

We do not want to do Durga puja as fools but do Durga puja by becoming
a Krsna bhakta!

A Call For Spiritual Heroism - HG CCP Speaks

The Ramayana gives us a glimpse of heroism and villainy, of selfless love and selfish lust. Lord Rama and His consort, Sita, are the eternal hero and heroine. Hanuman, the godly hero, personifies the tendency to selflessly assist the Lord in His divine love, whereas Ravana, the godless villain, personifies the tendency to selfishly grab the Lord’s property for our own lust. The godly hero aspires to enjoy with God, whereas the godless villain wants to enjoy like God.

On the other hand, in a typical movie all the main characters—the hero, the heroine, and the villain—have the same evil mentality of wanting to enjoy without caring for God. In the hero and heroine, the guise of romance masks that mindset, whereas the villain expresses it without reservation. But they are all Ravanas, the difference being merely in the shades of gray.

Our selfish attempts to be imitation heroes and heroines, whether in the movies or in real life, are intrinsically evil, and they fuel and fan all the greater evils we dread. Ultimately our evil boomerangs on us, for it perpetuates the illusion of our bodily misidentification, and our body subjects us to the tortures of old age, disease, death, and rebirth—again and again and again.

Of course we do not have to choke our natural urge for specialness. Like Hanuman we can all be heroes too—in service to the supreme hero.

A sincere soul is not trying to make a show. His enthusiasm is an act of service.

The joy of bhakti is experienced to the degree we are selfless in our efforts.

Fulfillment comes from reciprocation of Krishna being pleased within.

To the degree we expect respect; to that degree we will be quarrelsome.

In this world when we lament with separation from a lost loved one, we simply lament, because that person is not factually present within his remembrance. That person is gone. But the Supreme Lord can fully reciprocate with us in the very thought (Krishna) that enters into our mind, because Krishna is manifested within our heart.

Disappearance days of great acaryas are a great fortune to the devotees to cultivate sublime feelings of separation by longing to be in their divine association.

What is envy? Envy means, "I want to be seen as important and great” and if anyone is a threat to my own egoistic ideas, then there is negativity towards that person.

Ultimate culmination of all transcendental knowledge……..…....

Veda Vyas is Krishna Himself. He descended and wrote the Vedas. It was Veda Vyas, with the help of Ganapati, who wrote the entire Mahabharat, which includes the Bhagavad Gita, at Badrik ashram. It was him who wrote the 4 vedas – rg, yathur, atharva and the sama. He worte the Upanishads, puranasa, itihasas, the various histories, the Vedic literatures that are meant to elevate the consciousness of humanity to its ultimate perfection. And after this most extensive and exhaustive expression of his mercy to humanity by writing all these scriptures, he was not satisfied. In his ashram in Badrinath, sitting in the banks of saraswati, Narada muni approached him and told him you have not exclusively presented a scripture which speaks nothing but pure unalloyed devotion to the supreme lord Krishna. That is the ultimate culmination of all transcendental knowledge. So the last written statement of Veda Vyas was the Srimad Bhagavatam. The most perfect, spotless purana, the culmination of all knowledge. His own commentary on the Vedanta Sutra, the essence of the Vedas. And after describing the pure devotion of so many great devotees, mahajans, and then describing the personal lila of Krishna in Vrndavan, in Mathura, in Dwaraka … Krishna’s instructions to Uddhava … The last verse of Veda Vyas

nama-sankirtanam yasya sarva-papa pranasanam

pranamo duhkha-samanas tam namami harim param

In this age of Kali Yuga, the chanting, the congregational chanting of the holy names of Krishna will relieve you of all sinful reactions and award you the perfection of life. Srimad Bhagavatam ends, concludes, culminates with this glorification of the Sankirtan movement and in the Gaudiya Vaisnava sampradaya we understand that how Chaitanya Caritamrita begins where Srimad Bhagavatam ends.
